Riyadh, Saudi Arabia -

The Saudi Triathlon is proud to announce a landmark agreement with British triathlon icon and double Olympic gold medalist Alistair Brownlee to advise on the development of a comprehensive triathlon strategy across the Kingdom. The initiative represents a major leap in the Federation’s efforts to build a strong, sustainable triathlon culture from the ground up.

Alistair Brownlee, widely regarded as one of the greatest triathletes of all time, will serve as a strategic advisor and mentor, working directly with coaches, youth athletes, and community programs. His unparalleled experience, spanning Olympic victories in London 2012 and Rio 2016, as well as numerous international titles, along with his broader work, including collaborations with the Brownlee Foundation, will inform the creation of a national roadmap for triathlon development in the Kingdom.

Brownlee’s mandate will be rooted in the Federation’s Athlete Pathway Framework, which encompasses grassroots participation, talent development, and elite performance. This collaboration represents a broader shift toward building a comprehensive athlete pipeline, introducing more young people to the sport, identifying emerging talent early, nurturing their development, and increasing the number of elite Saudi athletes participating in international competitions and competing for medals.

“Triathlon has profoundly shaped who I am and given me immense enjoyment. As a sport, it demands dedication, resilience, and a deep love for the journey itself,” said Brownlee. “Through countless hours of training, I’ve learned discipline, courage, and the pure exhilaration of competition whilst having lots of fun with some great people. I believe passionately in sport’s power to transform young lives and strengthen communities. My time spent in the region has shown me the transformative potential of sport on many levels. In Saudi Arabia, I see not only immense athletic potential but also a spirit and determination among its youth that’s truly inspiring. I am honoured to help usher in a new era of sport here, growing Triathlon across the Kingdom and sharing the benefits with every aspiring athlete.”

The Federation’s strategy will include initiatives for talent identification in schools and communities, development programs for triathlon coaches, and the launch of regional training hubs and beginner-friendly events. Efforts will also focus on expanding access and inclusivity, particularly for youth, women, and individuals with disabilities.

His Highness Prince Fahd bin Jalawi, Vice President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, commented: “Sports are now a key part of our national story. Across the Kingdom, we’re seeing record participation and growing interest in disciplines that once had little presence. Triathlon is one of those frontiers. This partnership reflects our commitment to expanding opportunities, building new pathways, and inspiring future generations to take part and excel.”

This agreement supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which places sport and wellness at the heart of the Kingdom’s development agenda. The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee continues to expand its support for athletic federations, reflecting the growing national enthusiasm for sports and unprecedented levels of participation across the country.

Mishaal Al-Sulaiman, President of the Saudi Triathlon, added: “This is a major step in building the technical backbone of our sport. Alistair will work closely with our teams to design long-term development systems that are both performance driven and accessible. It’s about setting up the right structure now to ensure future success.”
