Coaching

Saudi Triathlon National Coaching Framework.

The Saudi Triathlon National Coaching Framework establishes a structured, progressive and nationally consistent system for the development, recognition and ongoing support of triathlon coaches. It is designed to strengthen coaching capability across the full participation pathway — from school and grassroots engagement through to high-performance and elite coaching environments — ensuring a sustainable pipeline of qualified, competent and development-focused coaches.

Built in alignment with world's best practice in coach development and sport governance, the framework provides a clear structure for education, assessment and professional progression. It places athlete welfare, coaching quality and system integrity at the centre of long-term sport development in Saudi Arabia.

Purpose of the Framework

The framework is designed to:

Develop a nationally aligned coaching system that supports participation and performance outcomes
Embed safeguarding, integrity and athlete welfare across all coaching environments
Establish clear and progressive coaching pathways for lifelong development
Strengthen national coaching capability at all levels of the sport
Promote inclusive access to coaching education and leadership opportunities
It represents a long-term commitment to building a strong, future-ready coaching workforce capable of supporting Saudi Arabia's triathlon ambitions and inspiring athletes to perform at the highest level.
Framework Structure
The coaching framework is structured across progressive certification levels that reflect increasing responsibility, complexity and coaching competency. Progression is based on demonstrated capability rather than time served, ensuring coaches are fully prepared for each stage of development.

Core components include:

  • Structured certification levels aligned to participation and performance environments

  • Competency-based assessment grounded in real-world coaching practice

  • Safeguarding and integrity requirements embedded across all levels

  • Annual licensing to ensure ongoing accountability and currency

  • Continuous professional development (CPD) to support lifelong learning

Together, these elements create a coherent national system that supports both participation growth and high-performance coaching development.

Coach Development Philosophy
The Saudi Triathlon coaching philosophy focuses on developing capable, ethical and athlete-centred coaches who positively influence both performance and participation experiences. It emphasises applied learning, reflective practice and contextual coaching competence. Coaches are expected to demonstrate technical, tactical and physiological understanding, alongside the ability to create safe, inclusive and developmentally appropriate environments for athletes at all levels. Coaching effectiveness is recognised as a product of experience, structured education and continuous professional learning.
Safeguarding, Integrity & Professional Standards
Athlete welfare and integrity are foundational to the framework. Safeguarding requirements are embedded across all coaching levels, ensuring coaches are equipped to provide safe, supportive and ethical environments. Annual licensing reinforces accountability and ensures coaches remain aligned with evolving standards and expectations. These measures strengthen trust in the coaching system and reinforce a culture of professionalism across the sport.
Gender Equity & Inclusion
In alignment with global efforts to advance gender equity in sport, Saudi Triathlon is committed to strengthening female representation within coaching pathways. A minimum target of 30% female participation across all coaching courses has been established, supporting the development of a more balanced and inclusive coaching workforce. This commitment reflects a broader ambition to expand access, diversify leadership and ensure coaching pathways reflect the wider community.
